gotta keep myself occupied somehow.
001 - RED
the man, the myth, the legend, the original- red. i dont think theres a lot to dislike about red. his design is pretty inoffensive and plain, and im not a big fan of the FRLG one. LGPE, RBGY, SM and masters red are all cooler.
red has what most pokemon protagonists do not, however- something that actually resembles a personality. key word, resembles. all pokemon games excluding masters seem to be allergic to giving red anything that resembles a personality, despite him having a pretty kickass backstory.
a child prodigy leaving all he knows to train up on a snowy mountain, only to show up a few years later in unova for a tournament like nothing happened. a few years after that in alola, hes a grown man. we didnt get any explanation for this. red, what happened. dude. whats your problem. i dont think that pokemon needs to spoonfeed us his personality and reasoning for doing what he did, but at least something would be nice. a hint. maybe he could make an expression? please?
where i really fell in love with red was masters. in masters, red is a little shit. embodiment of chaotic good. he can talk, by the way. one of the handful of times he speaks in masters is simply to fuck with the player and flint, which is extremely funny to me. what i dont like about red in masters, however, is all the bootlicking the plot does to him. "the strongest pokemon trainer! no way!" like he wasnt beaten by a bunch of kids on multiple occasions.
other than that small gripe, though, i think red is really cool. the advantage of his personality being barely explained is that i can simply make one up, which is my favorite thing to do!
